Banjo Fishing Rods & Reels
Using proper equipment is an important factor in successful
fishing. The rods and reels  we carry in our store are described
below.
Choosing a Rod
The importance of using a proper fishing rod when fishing the Banjo Minnow
can not be emphasized enough. All fishing rods are not created equal. In
order to impart lifelike movement to the lure it is necessary to have a
vibrant, fast acting rod tip. The new carbon fiber graphite fishing rods have
made the old fiberglass rods obsolete. While they are more expensive, they
cast further, are lighter, very sensitive and impart far more action to the
lure because of their much faster action. Even the best fisherman can not
make the minnow come alive if they are using a limp or buggy whip type
rod.
When they jerk the rod, the rod tip bends very easily and does not
straighten back out with a fast snap. The result is the line slowly pulls,
instead of quickly jerking the minnow. The bait does not respond except to
slowly move ahead. It is possible to buy carbon fiber graphite rods with fast
action tips for under $100.00, but the carbon fiber graphite content can be
low and the rod guides and handles of inferior quality.

We have decided to carry in our store what we consider to be very good
high quality rods of excellent value. These rods are the proper length and
ideal for making the Banjo Minnow come alive.

Rogue Rods
We consider these rods to be the equivalent of other rods that sell far in
excess of 200.00. They are, in our opinion, a real bargain, a high end
piece of equipment at a very moderate price.

WaveSpin Spinning Reels
Intoduced in 2007, these uniquely designed reels by Doug Hannon,
feature a scalloped reel spool that reduces friction on the line that
can result in up to 30% longer casts, and greatly reduces the likelyhood
of line tangle and birdsnests from loops in the line. The new reels have a
smooth drag and come in 3 different sizes. We feel these new reels are
a significant improvement, represent good value and highly recommend
them.

Below is a reprint of a Press Release from WaveSpin on Feb 21, 2008
For a company less than a year old, WaveSpin Reels' winning it's third
and latest accolade feels like winning that ultimate title. The latest was
Field & Stream Magazine's prestigious 2008 "Best of the Best" Award
in the March issue in which the editors of the 112-year old publication
said "Doug Hannon's WaveSpin Reels are a radical design at a time
when innovation in spinning is hard to find."

Outdoor Life Magazine fishing editor, Gerry Gibbs, wrote that the reel
represents "the first significant improvement in salt and freshwater
spinning-reel design in more than 50 years. What sets the WaveSpin
design apart from its competitors is that it is virtually impossible for
the line to birdnest during a cast."
In January, TackleTour.com presented the reel with it's Innovation Award
